Anne Mayhew began the Office of External Scholarships in late 2007. Professor Emerita at the University of Tennessee, she served on the faculty from 1968 until her retirement in 2006 and still teaches occasional courses for the Honors and History departments. During her tenure here, she also served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies, and from 1991 until 2000, as editor of the Journal of Economic Issues. She received her doctorate from the University of Texas in 1966. Her area of expertise is American economic history and the history of economic thought.
She has published articles in The Journal of Economic History, Journal of Economic Issues, The Economic History Review, Review of Political Economy, Business and Economic History, History of Political Economy, Cambridge Journal of Economics, History of Political Economy and in a number of collections of essays. Her latest project, a book titled Narrating the Rise of Big Business in the USA: How Economists Explain Standard Oil and Wal-Mart, will be published soon.
